Transfera and Rail Cargo Group forge joint venture in Belgrade: Pioneering intermodal logistics solutions

Transfera, a leading logistics company in the region, and Rail Cargo Group, the rail freight division of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB group), have joined forces by signing a significant agreement to establish a joint venture in Belgrade.

This newly formed partnership, headquartered in Belgrade, is poised to revolutionize the logistics landscape by focusing on the development of cutting-edge intermodal solutions. According to company representatives, this collaboration marks a pivotal step towards introducing innovative logistics solutions throughout the Western Balkans.

Christian Ebner, the Ambassador of Austria to Serbia, hailed the agreement as a crucial milestone in advancing transportation models within the region and across Europe. He underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Austria, emphasizing the substantial investments Austria has made in Serbia, particularly in the realm of rail freight transportation.

Duško Radović, CEO of Transfera, emphasized the significance of intermodal transportation as the future of logistics. He expressed confidence that the establishment of this joint venture would set new industry standards and pave the way for transformative advancements.

During a conference held at the Austrian Embassy in Belgrade, where the contract was formalized, it was noted that intermodal transportation is currently underrepresented in Serbia and the Balkans. However, recent initiatives aimed at reconstructing railways and modernizing infrastructure signal promising developments in this arena.

Christoph Grasl, a member of the Executive Board of Rail Cargo Group, highlighted the collaborative efforts between Transfera and ÖBB Rail Cargo Group. He stressed their shared commitment to delivering sustainable logistics and freight forwarding solutions tailored to the Serbian market. Grasl underscored the potential for Serbia’s industry to transition from road to rail transport, benefiting both the economy and the environment.
