Cashless payment is becoming increasingly popular in Serbia

According to the data for 2020, the number of almost all provided payment services and issuing electronic money has increased, and non-cash payments stand out.
The total number of users of electronic banking increased by 14.83 percent, and mobile banking by 26.99 percent compared to 2019, the National Bank of Serbia announced.
The growth of the relative importance of mobile banking can be seen from the year-on-year increase in the number of transactions of individuals and legal entities and entrepreneurs of 50.77 percent.
Despite the negative impact of the crisis, a year-on-year increase in the number of transactions of entrepreneurs and legal entities performed through electronic banking of 3.20 percent was recorded. When transactions of individuals are also taken into account, the total growth in the number of transactions via electronic banking is 4.05 percent.
The number of concluded distance contracts increased by more than 25,000 compared to 2019, which was contributed by the increased effort of banks to maintain business continuity while respecting the measures for prevention and control of Covid-19.
In the previous year, 2020, over 54 million card payments were recorded at POS terminals (card payments in retail facilities) more than in 2019.
At the same time, in 2020, as in the last few years, the number of transactions with cards and electronic money for the purpose of online purchase of goods and services increased, while the number of transactions in dinars, euros and US dollars increased by 64.44 percent.
If only transactions in dinars are taken into account, the growth is impressive, having in mind that in the year behind us, as many as 103.76 percent more transactions were performed than in 2019, and the increase in value is 81.46 percent.
In 2020, the trend of growth in the number of users of electronic and mobile banking continued, and last year, 300,606,419 transactions were performed using cards in retail outlets throughout Serbia, which is 22.24 percent more than the previous year.
This data refers to cards issued by banks that operate on the domestic market, while in the same period, the number of payments using cards of banks that do not operate in Serbia decreased by 27.33 percent.
In addition, at the beginning of the year, payment services were provided at the physical and internet point of sale of merchants by displaying and / or scanning the NBS IPS QR code.
The NBS is working intensively to expand the network of merchants who will provide the payment service by displaying and / or scanning the NBS IPS QR code, it is added in the announcement, BizLife reports.
