Energozelena, a company with mixed Belgian and Serbian ownership, will build the plant. The opening date is expected to be in September 2012. The plant will employ around 100 people. Energozelena will invest EUR 21 million in the plant, together with its own logistics system to collect the waste from abattoirs, farms and meat companies.

The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development approved a long-term investment loan for the plant’s construction worth RSD 300 million. Minister of Environment Oliver Dulic said this was the first modern investment in biomass processing and added there was 220,000 tonnes of slaughterhouse waste in Serbia.

Minister of Economy Nebojsa Ciric remarked that the plant was proof that Serbia was a good destination for investments despite difficulties and the economic crisis.
