Green light for The Electric Power Industry of Serbia’s investment in Gornja Drina power plants

The Commission for Protection of Competition (KPC) of Serbia has approved that Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) acquire joint control over the company “Hidroelektroenergetski sistem Gornja Drina” from Foca, according to the Decision published by the Commission.
ERS has complete control over the company from Foca through its subsidiary from Trebinje, and with this decision, the KPC gave the green light for EPS to have a share in control and ownership.
HES Gornja Drina was created by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Srpska in September 2019, and the merger of the companies Hidroelektrana Buk Bjela and Hidroelektrana Foca and Paunci in connection with the project of building the hydropower system “Gornja Drina”.
As stated in the decision, the project for the construction of HES Gornja Drina envisages the construction of the hydroelectric power plants Buk Bjela, Foca and Paunci, whose total installed capacity would amount to 180.9 megawatts.
EPS is joining HES Gornja Drina after the decisions of the Supervisory Board and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and it should acquire between 50 and 60 percent of the share on the basis of the financial contribution it will enter.
The beginning of the construction of the hydroelectric power plant Buk Bjela has been announced for January 2021, while the construction of the other camels of the power plant is planned for the beginning of 2023, Nova reports.
