The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, recently called on the company “Rio Tinto” to demolish the houses it bought in the Jadar valley.

Environmental organizations continue to warn that neither the state nor the company Rio Tinto have given up on the “Jadar” project, while Aleksandar Vučić publicly shows in his speeches that he cannot regret that it was put out of action.

The President of Serbia also recently stated that he hopes that a new government will change its position regarding lithium and made claims that some foreign services also took part in insisting that the project be banned. He then called on “Rio Tinto” to demolish the houses that are now owned by that company.

This with lithium would bring us a lot in the future, even though we have already lost a lot because they cornered us.. said Vučić.

Official data shows that “Rio Tinto”, i.e. the company’s daughter company “Rio Sava Exploration”, is the owner of as many as 534 immovable properties. All of them are located on the territory of Loznica, in the towns of Gornja Nedeljica and Slatina.

The cadastre includes a total of 89 buildings owned by that company, and the rest are plots of land – construction and agricultural land of different classes.

Complaint to the Administrative Court

The “Jadar” project was officially terminated in January of last year, when the Decree on the termination of validity of the spatial plan of the special purpose area for that project was adopted. This was done a few months before the elections, and after mass protests by citizens. Brnabić then said that all administrative acts related to “Rio Tinto”, i.e. “Rio Sava”, all permits, decisions… were annulled, and that we never had contracts.

Although the company “Rio Tinto”, after the adoption of the Decree, announced that they accepted the Government’s decision, it later filed a complaint with the Administrative Court. To date, it has not been announced that the procedure has been completed.
