The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Branislav Nedimovic, announced that a decision would be made in the coming days to increase milk premiums from five to eight eurocents per liter.
Speaking about milk producers who are in a big loss due to the jump in the price of cereals, Nedimovic told RTS that the increase in premiums is only one of the measures.
“It is one of the measures, the rest in the coming days. We will see how it all goes,” he said.
He added that only Serbia has enough milk in the area, that all other countries do not have it and that this is Serbia’s chance.
“When something appears as a problem, if you have enough intelligence, you can turn it from 0: 1 to 2: 1, from two to ace, and I hope we will do that in the dairy sector,” he noted.
Nedimovic said that there will be enough food despite the drought and that Serbia will be in plus, because this year the price of corn is higher than last year.
He stated that the yield of corn will be lower due to extremely high temperatures in July and insufficient rain.
“We will have six tons per hectare. More than a million hectares have been sown, there will be enough for Serbia, there will be enough for export,” says the Minister of Agriculture, Beta reports.
