Indonesia and Serbia on Tuesday signed an agreement on military cooperation that would cover intelligence and military operation experience sharing, education and armament procurement, local media reported.
Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and his Serbian counterpart Dragan Sutanovac were present at the signing ceremony.
Purnomo said that the deal with Serbia is related to Indonesia’ s armament rejuvenation as defense industry in Serbia has superb technology and it provides complete technical cooperation in armament making.
“The cooperation we are signing now is highly expected to rejuvenate our military equipment. This is part of efforts in the military reform,” Purnomo said.
He said that many of Serbia’s defense products are fit to armament standards used by countries in North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Countries like Belgium, Spain and Malaysia have ordered armament and ammunitions from Serbia, he said.
“We can benefit from the high quality of Serbian defense industry products. We can eventually develop our defense industry through technology transfer,” Purnomo said.
In response to Purnomo’s speech, Dragan Sutanovac said that Serbia also seeks more cooperation with Indonesia in military hospital service sector. He said that Serbia’s military hospital service is regarded as the best one in the world.
