IT sector in Serbia exports 200MEUR value products, boosting of the sector attracts big IT companies to Serbia

Serbia exports more software than raspberries yearly. One of the key pillars of Serbian economy in future period can become IT industry exactly.

 

Experts from this area estimate that IT industry can help state to recover in long terms and to stand on its feet. Instead of relying on heavy industry, Serbia can rely on IT sector now more than ever and the big potential of IT sector is clear.

Development of software for internet and mobile telephony from IT sector managed to be very successful in Serbia for a very short time. Official documents say that are bringing new technologies in Serbia increases external trade of the country at the same time.

20 bigger IT companies do business in Serbia. They export software which is more than 200 million EUR worth. With its 7 or 8% of participation in BDP, it is the most vital industrial sector in Serbia. In comparison, the profit from raspberries export has amounted around 142 million EUR.

 

State seems to realize and recognize potential which can be used with development of IT and investing in young experts from this area.

 

One of crucial segments of Reindustrialization National Plan whose creation is being finished, it will be the program for IT industry support. Car industry, IT industry and Army industry are the piles of reindustrialization strategy.

 

According to the earlier announcements from Ministry of Finance, the including part of action plan will be modernization of education system in order to adjust it to the needs of work market. It is only an announcement.

 

Export of 200 million EUR is not proportional to the strength and potential Serbia has in IT sector. It is necessary to introduce young projectors with system and to give them concrete stimulation.

 

State needs to enable young experts to enter in so called IT parks and incubators as soon as possible and to launch their business.

 

Negotiations with UAE

 

State negotiates with United Arabian Emirates about opening of the factory for production of chips and semiconductors, besides helping the youth to run its business. This investment is 4 billion EUR worth and it would significantly improve the economical position of Serbia.

 

Attraction of investments in IT sector can be contributed by Prime Minister who leads one national industrial delegation in America together with American Ambassador in Serbia, Michael Kirby. This delegation will visit companies from IT industry among others.

 

Exactly this investment and trade mission should represent possibilities for investment in IT sector in Serbia. The first address of Prime Minister and Industrial Delegation from Serbia was seat of “Microsoft” in Seattle and then the cradle of IT industry- Silicon Valley “Apple”, “Paypal”, HP…

 

These visits can help attraction to the investors and if this will work, we’ll find out very quickly. Exchange of experiences in IT is sure so far, some systems should be researched if they can be improved from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Internal Business or Defense.

 

We need to remind that EU gave 12 million EUR of help to Serbia for help to development of informational and communicational technologies.

 

IT experts are best paid

 

IT business is among the best paid jobs in Serbia. Earnings in IT sector in Serbia are from 20.000 to 150.000 dinars and IT experts are not waiting on work place, they often start to work even during studies.

 

Business offer in IT sector is in continual increase from year to year. 80% more advertisements in IT sector were in 2011 and 2012 with reference to 2010.
