“After almost four decades, a new power plant – Block B3 in Kostolac, will start operating this year, increasing EPS’s electricity production by seven percent. Additionally, TENT A is finally getting an ecological facility for flue gas desulfurization,” announced RTS.
The new Block B3 power plant in Kostolac has a capacity of 350 megawatts and will be supplied with coal from the Drmno mine.
“We have obtained almost all permits, and I believe that this week we will be able to start Block and synchronize its energy part with the grid to conduct further testing of all block parameters and create conditions for some next step, which would involve trial operation,” said Dušan Živković, acting general director of EPS, to RTS.
The minister emphasized that the power plant was built according to the latest environmental standards.
“For us, it primarily means additional base energy that is essential for us, regardless of the development of green energy. Base energy is still crucial for us, and this facility is worth 618 million euros and will be completed in the coming months,” said the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, to the public broadcaster.
The advantage of the Kostolac power plants is that they have had a desulfurization plant in operation for three years. This ecological facility is crucial for the operation of power plants as it reduces emissions of harmful gases, and it will also be implemented in the Obrenovac power plants.
Next year, the desulfurization facility, worth 220 million euros, will be completed in the Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant (TENT) B, and as of April this year, it will be operational in TENT A.
