NIS was the most profitable, EPS net losses reached 619 million euros

Last year, the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) was the most profitable company in Serbia, with a net profit of 93.4 billion dinars (about 797.2 million euros), which is fourfold compared to the previous year.

The biggest loser is the public company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which ended last year in the “minus” of 72.6 billion dinars (619.7 million euros). The EPS deficit is 4.9 times higher than in 2021, and represents 19.4 percent of the total net loss of the entire Serbian economy.

The list “One Hundred… in 2022” was compiled by the Agency for Economic Registers based on the analysis of the regular annual financial reports of 108,856 companies.

NIS Novi Sad is the most profitable company in 2022, with realized 7.5 percent of the total net profit and 2.9 percent of the business income of the economy. Compared to the previous year, the net profit increased more than four times last year compared to the previous year.

Last year’s first-placed company, the mining company Serbia Zijin Mining Bor, continued to operate profitably and is in second place with a net profit of 75 billion dinars (640 million euros).

Another company for the exploitation of ores, Serbia Zijin Copper Bor, with a net profit of 35 billion dinars and a jump in profit of 47.9 percent, took the third position on the list of the most profitable companies.
Telekom Srbija is in fourth place with a net positive result of 13.3 billion dinars (a little more than 113 million euros), which has increased by 1.5 percent compared to 2021.

High profitability was achieved, as announced by APR, on the basis of the primary activity, which with a business profit of 17.9 billion dinars is 19.4 percent higher than last year.

The fifth place on the list of the most profitable belongs to the newly established electricity trading company SCM Power Belgrade with a net profit of 10.9 billion dinars.

The biggest losers are EPS and Ikarbus

“As in previous years, the largest company in Serbia is JP EPS , which is the second in terms of realized business income, but at the same time it also reported the largest net loss in the amount of 72.6 billion dinars… the basic income of EPS is higher by 12.1 percent on an annual level, in the amount of 358 billion dinars, which at the same time make up 2.1 percent of the income of the entire economy”, announced APR.

In second place in terms of net loss is bus production company Ikarbus with a loss of 24.5 billion dinars, according to APR data.

In third place Arena Channels Group with a net loss of 12.5 billion dinars, FCA Serbia Kragujevac with a loss of 11.6 billion dinars, Rio Sava Exploration 9.9 billion dinars in 2022.

JP Srbijagas Novi Sad is in third place among companies with the highest operating income with 219 billion dinars, while a positive net result was recorded in the amount of 5.4 billion dinars, so it is in 20th place on the list of companies with the highest net profit.

On the success list, the Delhaize Serbia retail chain is in fourth place with 134 billion dinars of business income, while on the list of the most profitable companies it is in 13th place with 6.7 billion dinars in net profit. Vehicle tire manufacturer Tigar Tires Pirot is in fifth place on the list of companies with the highest operating income, with an amount of 134 billion dinars, as well as in eighth place in terms of net profit with 8.8 billion dinars.

Other companies in the plus

Among the hundred companies with the highest net profit, the most numerous are companies from the S-Manufacturing industry sector, in which 43 companies operated, 10 of which were involved in the production of food products.

The best placed in that sector, which achieved an increase in net profit, are: sugar producer Sunoko Novi Sad (23rd place), Sojaprotein Bečej (35th place), Concern Bambi Požarevac (43rd place) and AD Imlek Padinska skela (51st place). The manufacturer of ready-made food for pets Farmina Pet Foods Inđija (26th place) operated with a slightly lower net profit, while the company Dijamant Zrenjanin , which is in 91st place, recorded the biggest drop in profitability.

JP EPS Belgrade also employed the largest number of workers, i.e. 20,008 last year, which is 3,499 less than in 2021.

On the list of “One Hundred…” companies in 2022, there are 20 public companies, which employed a total of 62,227 workers. Ten public companies recorded a positive net result, three of which are among the hundred most profitable companies, while the remaining ten operated with a net loss, and seven of them are on the list of the hundred biggest losers. At the same time, eight public companies are among the companies with the largest total loss.

The biggest net gain, along with JP Srbjagas Novi Sad (20th place), was achieved by: JP Posta Srbije and JKP Beogradske elektrane Belgrade (39th and 69th place).

On the other hand, the biggest net loss, in addition to the first-placed JP EPS, was reported by JP Putevi Srbije (seventh place), as well as JP GSP Belgrade, JP PEU Resavica and JP Elektrokosmet Priština (ninth, 25th and 37th place respectively), they show APR data.
