Novi Sad Commodity Exchange Witnesses Decline in Trading Volume Last Year

The past year was exceptionally uncertain, as geopolitical events worldwide significantly impacted global markets, subsequently affecting our region, as stated in the annual report of the Commodity Exchange from Novi Sad for 2023.

In terms of quantity, the turnover last year amounted to 174,539.55 tons of goods, representing a volume decrease of 40.9 percent compared to the previous year.

Quantity-wise, the highest trading occurred in November of last year when the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves purchased 27,660 tons of mercantile wheat, according to authorities.

In the achieved annual turnover, similar to the previous year, wheat took the primary position with a 50.3 percent share. Corn followed in the second position with 33.27 percent, and then soybeans with 6.32 percent. Throughout the year, 1,141 commodity exchange contracts were concluded, which is 6.93 percent less than in 2022. It is also mentioned that in 2023,

The Commodity Exchange earned the trust of 450 active members, representing an 18.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Compared to the previous year, 70 new companies and agricultural households have become members of the Commodity Exchange. During 2023, 58,067 tons of corn were traded. The highest price level for corn was reached at the beginning of the year, in January, when its price was 33.50 dinars per kilogram excluding VAT, while the lowest price was recorded in October when corn was traded at a price of 14 dinars.

The price peak for wheat in 2023 was observed in January, costing 35.5 dinars per kilogram excluding VAT, while the lowest recorded price was also in October at a level of 18.5 dinars.
