The Minister of Finance, Sinisa Mali, stated that the real growth of the gross domestic product in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, amounted to 1.7 percent, and that Serbia again achieved one of the best results in Europe in terms of GDP growth.
“Although the base from last year for the first quarter was very high and amounted to 5.2 percent, now we have a better result,” said Mali, his ministry announced.
He stated that, according to the “flash assessment” of Eurostat, Serbia achieved one of the best results in Europe in terms of GDP growth rate, and expressed confidence that it will be the same in June, after the publication of final Eurostat data for the first quarter.
The Minister also reminded that according to the “flash estimate” of the Republic Bureau of Statics, published on May 5, real GDP growth in the first quarter, compared to the same period last year, amounted to 1.2 percent of GDP, and that now, when they published the final data, it can be seen that this growth was even higher.
According to him, GDP growth also enables an increase in pensions and salaries.
Mali emphasized that the industrial production in Serbia in April this year was higher by 33.9 percent than at the same time last year, and that in relation to the average in 2020, it was higher by 5.8 percent.
He added that industrial production in the period January-April 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, was higher by 10.1 percent.
“All these are numbers that we can be very satisfied with and which show us that the measures of economic assistance and support to citizens and the economy, which we adopted in order to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic, were good and fulfilled their purpose, to preserve the economy and the living standard of the citizens of Serbia is preserved,” said Mali, N1 reports.
