The Coordination Body of Serbia for Gender Equality announced today that a list of recommendations was sent to employers so that the economic principles of women’s empowerment prescribed by the United Nations would be respected even during the crisis caused by the pandemic.
The recommendations were sent to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, NALED, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Council of Foreign Investors, the Serbian Association of Managers and the Ministry of Economy of Serbia.
Women are at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus, because they are mostly employed in the health and social sector, retail chains, care and household and family members, which puts them at a disadvantage and vulnerability, said the president of the Coordination Body for gender equality Zorana Mihajlovic.
“That is why, with the support of the EU Delegation to Serbia, the British Embassy and the UN Women organization, we sent recommendations to employers to include in their business activities that will reduce the gender gap,” she said.
These activities also refer to the flexibility of working hours, preservation of jobs, support for women who are victims of violence, directing donations to organizations that provide assistance to vulnerable categories of women.
Mihajlovic pointed out that there is a positive response to this initiative, among other things, the Serbian Association of Managers, which gathers more than 400 managers of companies with more than 70,000 employees, Danas reports.
