The development of the distillery sector for fruit brandy production has brought about positive implications for various domestic industries, including the machinery sector, fruit cultivation, packaging production, design services, and marketing. Dr. Branko Popović, from the Institute of Fruit Growing in Čačak and newly elected president of the Commission for Sensory Evaluation of Strong Alcoholic Beverages at the International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad, is optimistic about the future of brandy production.

Popović emphasizes the significance of Serbia’s plum varieties, which are renowned throughout the region. The Institute is actively involved in preserving old autochthonous plum varieties and other fruits, contributing to the development of premium brandies. With over 1,000 registered distilleries in Serbia, significant investments are being made in production capacities and equipment to produce high-quality brandies that can compete globally.

While some regions in Serbia have larger distilleries, the Čačak area is also witnessing substantial investments in new distilleries and modern equipment.
