Serbia and China strengthen energy cooperation with new investments

During the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, agreements were inked to bolster cooperation between Serbia and China in the energy sector, announced Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović, highlighting a framework agreement for constructing an oil and petroleum derivatives processing plant, along with a signed memorandum supporting an investment in a solar panel factory.

“The envisaged oil and petroleum derivatives processing plant in Smederevo will adhere to the highest EU technological, environmental, and product quality standards. The total investment is estimated at around 2.4 billion EUR, with plans to directly employ 700 individuals and indirectly engage about 2,400 workers,” the minister underscored on her Instagram profile.

Regarding the solar panel factory, the memorandum with Hunan Rich Photovoltaic Science & Technology signifies the Serbian Government‘s backing for this endeavor.

“A 1 GW solar panel factory, coupled with the construction of a solar power plant, will be established in Paraćin. These agreements mark a pivotal stride towards a sustainable energy future and fortifying bonds between our nations,” emphasized Đedović Handanović.

As detailed on the Serbian Government’s website, the solar power plant will boast a capacity of 200 MW. Furthermore, the government’s statement outlines plans to invest 30 million EUR over three years in the solar panel production facility, creating jobs for 180 workers.
