Serbia imported electricity worth some 1.6 billion euros, while natural gas imports cost more than 1.6 billion euros
, NewsAccording to data published by Serbian Statistics Office, in 2022, the country imported electricity worth some 1.6 billion euros, while natural gas imports cost more than 1.6 billion euros.
The value of imported gas increased by 282 % year-on-year in 2022, while imported volume increased by just 19 %. At the same time, electricity imports increased by 231 % compared to 2021, when Serbia imported 475 million euros worth of electricity.
In 2022, Serbia imported almost 2.2 billion tons of natural gas in gaseous state (via pipelines). Majority of imported gas came from Russia (1.8 billion tons), followed by Hungary (350 million tons) and Bulgaria (17.5 million tons). Value of Russian imports amounted to 943 million euros, 670 million euros from Hungary and 18.5 million euros from Bulgaria. A ton of gas imported from Russia averaged at 0.5 euros, compared to 1.9 euros per ton for imports from Hungary.
In comparison, total value of natural gas imports amounted to 427 million euros in 2021 and 409 million euros in 2020.
Regarding electricity, most imports in 2022 came from Bulgaria, followed by Hungary, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia.
