Serbia not afraid of economic reforms, has surplus

Serbia has a high budget surplus at the end of August and it is not afraid of economic reforms and tough measures, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Monday.

“We have a surplus in August. We have retained a high surplus after two thirds of the year have passed,” Vucic told a press conference following a meeting with foreign diplomats and heads of missions of international organisations and institutions, held to present Serbia’s position on the situation in the region.

Serbia wants the region to remain peaceful, it wants to have the lowest deficit and even higher economic growth and cut its unemployment rate, Vucic said.

Vucic said he expected the IMF board of directors to confirm a positive assessment for Serbia after a fourth and a fifth review under a stand-by arrangement, adding that the IMF would announce this soon.
