Significant growth in Serbia’s pharmaceutical market in 2023: Prescription drugs up by 14.2%, OTC products by 15.9%

The market for prescription drugs has recorded a growth of 14.2% compared to the previous year, reaching a value of 1.2 billion euros in 2023, according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS). The largest growth comes from an increase in the group of drugs for the therapy of oncological diseases and metabolic disorders.

The market for over-the-counter pharmaceutical products has grown by 15.9% in retail value, reaching 710 million euros, while the number of boxes sold to end consumers is 1.1 million less compared to 2022.

At the session of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia’s Group of Marketing Authorization Holders, the Annual Report for 2023 was adopted, and activities to be included in this year’s Work Plan of the group were agreed upon. The meeting also included an overview of the pharmaceutical market, highlighting sales figures for different categories of pharmaceutical products during the past year.

Training sessions were announced for March in six terms, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia in cooperation with the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Serbia. These sessions will be for clients of the agency operating in the field of medicines to access information systems, which will be possible through a qualified certificate or the mobile application Consent eID.
