A memorandum of understanding between the Serbian government and US tech giant Cisco was signed in Washington DC on Monday.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who was visiting the United States, was in attendance as Serbian Ambassador to the US Djerdj Matkovic and Cisco’s Senior Vice President for Relations with Governments and Communities Michael Timmeny signed the document.

This memorandum highlights the intention of the two parties to start talks to reach an agreement on the National Digitization Accelerating Agenda (CDA) program, the Serbian government announced on its website, citing a statement issued by the president’s press service, and added:

“The achievement of this programme can be a strategic move and build a long-term partnership that, through the acceleration of the national digitization agenda, will help boost GDP, create new jobs and provide innovation and education in the public and private sectors.”

The goal of this memorandum is to work on an approach that would represent a joint ownership of both parties and help attract foreign direct investment, strengthen economic development, meet a number of social goals, enable young people to participate in the digital economy, foster digital innovation and competitiveness, and create space for export oriented and knowledge-based possibilities, the statement said.
