Ciric, who was on a working visit to Berlin, said that the cooperation can be enhanced in terms of trade in goods and by making use of the potential for the improvement of industrial cooperation, the energy sector, infrastructure and transport, the car industry, agriculture and many other areas.

During his stay in Berlin, the Minister attended the 6th meeting of the Serbia-Germany Business Council where it was affirmed that Germany is Serbia’s number one export market. As for the CEFTA region, Serbia remains the top German partner, he observed.

Over 170 participants attended the first day of the economic forum, which is a clear message of German investors and the business community that has invested in Serbia that in the economic sense, our country has most certainly earned the status of an EU candidate, Ciric noted.

Prospective German investors had an opportunity to hear positive experiences first-hand, not only from the Serbian delegation, but also from German investors already doing business in Serbia, he underlined.

There are currently over 400 German companies from various sectors operating in Serbia and hiring 20,000 people. The major ones are Stada, Messer, Henkel and Metro.

The car industry holds an important position in Serbia’s export-oriented economy, with an increasing number of German companies such as Leoni, Draexlmeier, Grammer, Norma Group and ContiTech.

This year’s Business Council is of particular importance because for the second year in a row Germany is Serbia’s major foreign trade partner and the number of German companies investing in Serbia is also on the rise.
