Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said, after signing the contract on the construction of biomass boilers for the heating plant in Novi Pazar, that the goal is for all cities and municipalities in Serbia to be green and to use renewable sources for heat and electricity production that will provide healthier environment. According to her, this will mean a higher quality of life in Novi Pazar, because carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced from more than 6,000 tons to about 500 tons per year, and sulfur dioxide emissions will be reduced to zero.
“By realizing this agreement, we are moving towards a sustainable process of green energy production, and everything we do should be with the same goal, to enable a healthier environment, not only for us, but also for future generations,” said Mihajlovic, the Ministry announced.
She called on other local governments to take this path, to use biomass and renewable energy sources as much as possible, and pointed out that only with the cooperation of central and local government can the environment be made healthier and increase the efficiency of energy production.
The mayor of Novi Pazar, Nihat Bisevac, emphasized the importance that the new plant will have for the citizens of Novi Pazar.
“When the works are completed, we will be able to provide thermal energy for more than 240,000 square meters of residential and business space, compared to the current 100,000 square meters. Another great benefit for all will be the fact that the heating plant will no longer be in the city center,” said Bisevac.
KfW Director Rudiger Hartmann emphasized that this project, worth around seven million euros, is moving towards the process of decarbonisation and increasing air quality, and stressed that he hopes to continue cooperation with the ministry, without whose vision of a green agenda such projects would not be possible, N1 reports.
