Employment trends in Serbia: First quarter 2024 analysis

In the first quarter of 2024, the Republic’s Statistical Office (RZS) reported a total of 2,364,580 employees. Among them, 1,898,894 were employed by legal entities, 414,777 were entrepreneurs, their employees, and self-employed individuals, and 50,909 were registered individual farmers. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 14,833 employees, representing a growth of 0.6 percent. Specifically, the number of employees in legal entities rose by 11,079 (0.6 percent), while the number of entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals increased by 8,239 (2 percent). However, the number of registered individual farmers decreased by 4,485 (8.1 percent).

Compared to the previous quarter, there was a slight decrease in the total number of employees by 3,124 individuals (0.1 percent). This decline was observed across different categories, with a decrease of 37 employees in legal entities, 2,145 in entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals (0.5 percent), and 942 in registered individual farmers (1.8 percent).
