The inflation rate slowed to 6.4% in January

The prices of goods and services for personal consumption in January 2024, compared to December 2023, increased on average by 0.3%, while in comparison to the same month of the previous year, they rose by 6.4%, as reported by the Republic Statistical Office.

In 2023, compared to 2022, consumer prices, which are used to measure inflation, increased on average by 12.1%.

When observed by the main groups of products and services classified by the purpose of consumption, in January 2024, compared to the previous month, price growth was recorded in the health group (0.7%), as well as in the groups of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, recreation and culture, and restaurants and hotels (each by 0.6%). Additionally, there was an increase in the groups of food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.5%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco, household equipment, and current maintenance (each by 0.2%), and in the transport group (0.1%).

A decline in prices was observed in the category of clothing and footwear, with a decrease of 1.3%.
