Investment in the development of Ponikve Airport near Uzice will begin in 2021 and will cost between five and ten million euros to accommodate larger aircraft, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic announced.
Ponikve Airport has been transferred to the jurisdiction of the Airport of Serbia, and Mihajlovic says that the airport could be very important for tourism development, since a section of the highway towards Sarajevo will be built there.
Mihajlovic points out that the runway will be expanded, as it can now only accommodate planes up to 20 seats, and that the funds are provided.
“There is also interest in the Bor and Novi Sad airports (to be transferred to the jurisdiction of the Serbian Airport) and that is now under discussion”, Mihajlovic added.
He says that the Serbian government has already raised the Nis airport, as well as that Morava airport for civil aviation was opened last year and that the first flights are already in place.
“We have the interest of low-cost airlines to fly from Morava. Our goal is to create infrastructure at these airports. This year, the construction of a new tower is starting at the Nis airport, as will a new tower at the Belgrade airport”, the minister said.
Mihajlovic adds that documents for a brand new runway at Morava Airport will be completed this year.
“The existing runway where smaller planes land will remain, but another runway will be built so that large and cargo planes can land on it”, Mihajlovic emphasized for Dnevnik.
