The Serbian government has set aside 5.5 million euros to support the implementation of population policy measures for 2020, the latest issue of the Official Gazette announced.
The government has passed a decree laying down a program of support for population policy measures, which will be implemented by the Cabinet of Ministers without portfolio in charge of demography and population policy.
“The grants identified in the Program are intended to co-finance population policy measures relevant to the demographic development of local government units with the aim of improving demographic parameters”, the regulation states.
The individual goals that are to be achieved through the implementation of the Program are to reduce the economic cost of raising a child, to harmonize work and parenting, to reduce the psychological cost of parenting, to preserve and improve reproductive health, to address infertility, the path to healthy motherhood, to educate in population policy and to activate local self-government.
One or more local self-government units from the same region may apply for the use of the grant, which will jointly implement population policy measures, but the City of Belgrade cannot be a beneficiary of funds from this program.
The maximum amount of co-financing may be up to 250.000 euros when the applicant is a city, or 125.000 euros when the applicant is a municipality.
Local governments will be obliged to submit to the Cabinet by December 15, 2020, a report on the activities carried out and the use of the funds allocated under this program, Nova Ekonomija reports.
