There are 59,000 construction sites in Serbia, employing 5,700 people, and 290 kilometers of new highways are being built, which is a total of about 600 kilometers with rehabilitation and reconstruction, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said today.
We are working on 16,000 more construction sites compared to the same period last year, Mihajlovic emphasized.
“All construction sites in Serbia are working and none were closed during the coronavirus epidemic,” said Mihajlovic as a guest on Happy TV.
She says that for now there are no infected people among the workers, as well as that we have to learn to live with the corona, because life must not stop.
She points out that the builders have shown that they know how to organize and preserve construction sites.
“Today, we have 59,000 construction sites in Serbia, which is 16,000 more than in the same period last year. In Serbia, construction is underway, builders live in camps, they have learned to live with the corona, to save themselves and continue to do their job. Health is in the first place, but we must also take care of the economy,” said Mihajlovic.
She adds that the value of current investments is 3.45 billion euros, as well as that the works on the construction of the Moravian Corridor, the highway Sremska Rasa – Kuzmin and the sections from Preljina to Pozega have been intensified.
The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that this was the fourth biggest crisis in the last 150 years.
“The world is in a serious recession, all forecasts from March today are worse for the economy. This will spill over to developing countries and it is important that we do everything we can so that the economy does not suffer. Projections are that the world’s decline in GDP will be minus nine percent, in the EU minus 10 percent. The IMF estimates that Serbia will have the lowest decline, because it is a small economy and can be more resilient, but that does not mean we should relax. That is why it is important that construction works and that no the moment didn’t matter,” concluded Mihajlovic, Dnevnik reports.
