Minister Zorana Mihajlovic stated that there is no reason to go into any privatization of The Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) today, or in 10 years.
She pointed out in the Serbian Parliament, where the set of laws in the field of energy and mining was discussed, that there was also no reason for Serbia not to produce sufficient amounts of electricity, but that EPS must be able to be much more efficient.
She emphasized that this company has not built new capacities for a long time and that is why it must now invest in them.
However, she also pointed out the economic part of building the capacity for electricity production and stated that, for example, the construction of the most modern thermal power plant of 600 MW costs around 4.5 billion euros, and reversible hydroelectric power plants of 600 plus 600 MW up to one billion euros.
Referring to the remarks of the deputies related to the replacement of carpentry in order to increase energy efficiency, Mihajlovic explained that the law stipulates that citizens will not go to companies and procure doors and windows for replacement there.
“First, we will have a public invitation or tender for companies, and based on it, a list of companies that will work and provide that carpentry,” she explained, adding that companies can increase the price as much as they want, but then carpentry will not be procured from them, B92 reports.
