Two bridges funded by the Government of Kuwait opened in the Krupanj town, Macva district in West Serbia.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Kuwait Ambassador to Serbia, Youssef Abdulsamad, and director-general of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), Abdulrahman Al-Awn.

The two bridges were financed by the second tranche of a Kuwaiti donation to Serbia following the devastating floods of 2014.

KRCS supervised the implementation of the humanitarian project.

Addressing the ceremony, Abdulsamad said: “One of the bridges is named Serbia-Kuwait Friendship Bridge in recognition of our humanitarian role around the globe. This reflects the depth of the friendly relations between Kuwait and Serbia.”

Abdulsamad congratulated the residents of the area on the project which will greatly facilitate traffic in the area.

On his part, Ivan Isailovic, mayor of the town, expressed gratitude to Kuwait for the generous donation. He said: “But for the contributions of Kuwait and other friendly countries, the reconstruction of the town would take up to 30 years. We hope for continued co-operation with Kuwait in important sectors as investment and tourism.”
