The rehabilitation of the flood-affected regions in Serbia should begin by the end of August and it will be carried out depending on the type of program and priorities, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Kori Udovicki said late on Wednesday.

Udovicki told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that the damaged and destroyed houses and infrastructure would be repaired and reconstructed before the winter, that is, “by mid-fall.”

Commenting on the news from Brussels that today’s donors’ conference for Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina saw EUR 1.7 billion allocated as assistance for the two countries, Udovicki said that the amount exceeded her expectations.

In addition to the financial resources, it is necessary to provide a formal document and the Serbian parliament started a debate on the Bill on flood damage repair, which should provide for institutional mechanisms to speed up the process of rehabilitation in the areas affected by the massive flooding in May, Udovicki said.
