In Serbia, officially starting today, the issuance of a unified work permit for foreigners who wish to work and reside in Serbia is expected to begin. Under the new rules, foreign nationals will submit only one application for both purposes – work and residence.

This is made possible by the amendments to the Law on the Employment of Foreigners, which was adopted on July 26th of last year, introducing the concept of a unified work and residence permit from February 1, 2024. The issuance of this permit will be facilitated through digital means, and applications for the unified work and residence permit will be submitted through a single portal, meaning the entire application, including all documents, will be submitted electronically.

For now, the portal is not yet open, but after the approval of the application, the unified work and residence permit will be issued as a biometric document, and it will be issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Serbia.
