The Serbian government has plans to invest more in southern Serbia in the period to come to improve the state of city budgets and reduce the soaring unemployment rate in the region, PM Aleksandar Vucic said in Nis Thursday at a meeting with the heads of five southern Serbian districts and city and municipal mayors.

On the first day of the government’s week-long residence in Nis, Vucic said that an agreement would be signed with the auto parts maker Leoni to enable creation of new jobs.

“While we are here, we will sign an agreement with Leoni to create 2,200 jobs. Aster Textile already has 250 employees and it will be aiming to create 400-500 new jobs. We will visit Yura, which will hire a thousand more people. Teklas will be getting a second production plant, and, what is important, we expect Philippine and many other companies to come,” Vucic said.
