The World Bank intends to make financial resources available to the Government of Serbia for the realization of the first phase of the Serbian part of the multiphase project of the Integrated Development Program for the corridors of the Sava and Drina rivers, the Republic Water Directorate announced.
– The development goals of the project are focused on improving flood protection, transboundary water resources management in selected parts of the Sava and Drina river basins. The project seeks to promote regional economic integration and accession to the European Union – it is stated on the website of the Directorate.
It is added that the project is subject to the new environmental and social framework of the World Bank, ie a set of environmental and social standards that, starting from October 2018, replaced what was previously known as Safeguards, so the Directorate is in the process of approving the project.
The World Bank’s 330 million euros program is one of the largest regional initiatives in the field of water management that encourages infrastructure development and flood protection in the Sava and Drina basin countries, eKapija reports.
