Budget review possible – but due to better results

As of today, Serbia has a 19.6 bln dinar budget surplus even though a 122 bln deficit has been projected for this year – the result is several times better than expected and the government could go for a budget review due to better, rather than worse, results, Prime Minister designate Aleksandar Vucic said Tuesday.

Presenting the new government’s programme, Vucic said that the budget deficit in the first half of the year was at 18.2 bln dinars, rather than the planned 78.3 bln.

“Now we have a 19.6 bln surplus,” Vucic said, noting this was a result of permanent, rather than temporary factors – higher tax revenues in particular.

The results are impressive and will enable salary and pension increases, he said.

In the first three months of this year, GDP growth was at 3.4 pct in real terms, which is significantly higher than expected, he said.
