Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić on Tuesday in Islamabad met with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar.
Jeremić said after the meeting that he had received support for Serbia’s positions on Kosovo, which was extremely important as Pakistan would be a member of the UN Security Council as of January 1, 2012.
“Serbia continues to build partnership relations with Pakistan. Pakistan is a significant international factor, nuclear power, and one of the largest and most influential members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference,” Jeremić underlined.
Jeremić told Tanjug that Pakistan would become a UN SC member as of January 1, 2012, which is why it was very important to present Islamabad with Serbia’s positions on Kosovo, regarding which it received Pakistan’s support today.
Jeremić also stressed that Pakistan was a huge market.
“There is considerable potential for the Serbian companies here, above all in the domain of agriculture and military industry,” he said.
According to Jeremić, an agreement was reached to restore the work of the mixed Serbian-Pakistani economic cooperation committee.
The first committee session may, as he said, be held in 2012, when the Pakistani foreign minister is expected to pay a return visit to Serbia.
No comment
Vuk Jeremić on Tuesday declined to comment on media speculation that he had been criticized at the recent meeting of the Democratic Party (DS) as being the most responsible for Serbia’s failure to obtain the EU candidate status.
“Due to an official trip abroad, I could not take part in that meeting. Therefore, I cannot comment on speculations that were published by the media with reference to that,” Jeremić said in Islamabad, Pakistan.
