Foreign remittances to Serbia increase in 2015 – Eurostat

Foreign remittances to Serbia increased 9.2% year-on-year to 3.04 billion euro ($3.2 billion) in 2015, the EU’s statistical office Eurostat said on Thursday.

The personal remittances to Serbia from EU member states went down by 4.8% to 1.928 billion euro, figures published on the website of Eurostat showed.

The remittances to Serbia from non-EU countries rose by 47.3% to 1.112 billion euro, Eurostat said.

The personal remittances outflow from Serbia grew by 9.9% to 221 million euro in 2015, with 96 million euro of them to EU member states.

According to the most recent census, in 2011 Serbia had a population of 7.187 million.

A recent survey by Nis-based Serbian non-governmental organisation Youth Center for Democracy showed that as of June 2016 a total of 670,514 Serbian citizens resided in EU member countries, including 220,908 in Germany and 186,807 in Austria.
