Four projects that won market premiums for wind power

The Ministry of Mining and Energy announced after the end of the first auctions for market premiums that it expects from 240 to 600 million euros in income for 15 years from wind power plants, based on the difference in price between the market price and the average price realized at the auction.

The market price of a megawatt from wind is currently around 110 euros, and the average auction price is 68 euros, and the rules say that the winners of the auction pay the state the difference between the market price and the offered price. The ministry stated in a statement that the winners commit to invest over one billion euros in different parts of Serbia – and here are the planned power plants that should produce “green megawatts” in the future.

“Vetrozelena” near Pancevo – Power China and CWP Europe

The companies CWP Europe and PowerChina Resources signed a contract at the end of April, which determined that the Chinese partner will become the owner of 51 percent of the share in the construction project of the wind farm “Vetrozelena” near Pancevo, with 48 wind generators of the latest generation and a planned installed power of 300 megawatts.

“We hope that the construction will start before the end of this year, and that it will be completed and put into operation during 2025. When it is finished, we expect that ‘Vetrozelena’ will be able to supply 200,000 households in Serbia with clean and affordable energy, and that it will contribute to reduce CO2 emissions in your country by 820,000 tons per year,” CWP Europe CEO Dimitar Enchev told reporters after signing the contract.

Wind power plant “Pupin” in Kovačica – Enlight K2 Wind

In June 2021, an Israeli investor received permission to expand the wind farm in Kovačica, which normally has been operating since 2019, and with 104.5 megawatts, it is the second largest in our country.

Three months before obtaining the permission for the expansion, “Kovačica” was visited by the then Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlović, and the Ambassador of Israel in Belgrade, Yachen Vilan, who said at the time that he hoped “that in two years we will see each other again at the opening of the new wind power plant ‘Pupin ‘ and that there will be more projects like this in the future”.

It is planned that the “Pupin” wind park will be completed in the middle of this year, with 16 wind generators and a total power of 95.5 megawatts. At the auction for market premiums, “Pupin” won the quota of 68 megawatts for the offered 68.88 euros per megawatt.

“Čibuk 2” in Kovin – Masdar Taaleri Generation

In mid-January, the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović, and the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Suhail Al-Mazrouei, agreed in Abu Dhabi to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of hydrogen development, as a new energy source, and the continuation cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources.

As it was announced at the time, the minister assessed during the meeting that the most significant result of the cooperation between Serbia and the UAE so far is the wind park “Čibuk 1”, which produces green energy that can supply 113,000 households.

“During the year, we will also start the construction of ‘Chibuka 2’, with a capacity of 150 MW. We probably won’t stop there, because companies from the UAE are also interested in projects in the field of solar energy, in which they have extensive experience,” Đedović announced at the time.

The Chibuk 2 project is being developed by Masdar Taaleri Generation (MTG), a company co-owned by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar of the UAE and Finland’s Taaleri Energia. “Čibuk 2” won a quota of 108.5 megawatts at a price of 73.7 euros per megawatt at the auction for market premiums.

Wind power plant “Crni vrh” near Bor – Crni vrh Power

It is planned that the “Crni vrh” wind farm will be built at the tri-border of Žagubica, Bor and Majdanpek, and the value of the investment, which includes the installation of 32 wind generators, is estimated at around 100 million euros, it was announced in mid-2022.

The first news about that project was published by eKapija two years earlier, when it dealt with the number of 40 wind generators, while the domestic company “Crni vrh Power doo Žagubica” was founded on August 28, 2019. The “Crni Vrh” wind power plant won a quota of 13.5 megawatts, at a price of 79 euros per megawatt, and the documentation from the auction shows that the reported capacity of that power plant is 150 megawatts.
