Germany supports biomass project worth EUR 8 million

Serbia will implement the project aimed at development of the sustainable biomass energy market to the total value of EUR 8 million in the next three years, in cooperation with the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) and with the support by German partners.

The project was discussed in Belgrade by Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic and Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector of the German province Baden-Wurttemberg Franz Untersteller.

The first stage of the project which covers situation analysis has already been completed and cost-effective solutions which can be implemented in Serbia should be completed in the second stage, the minister told reporters.

She noted that the two countries’ delegations discussed improvement of cooperation in agriculture, water management, climate changes, environmental protection, renewable energy sources and rural development.

Untersteller said that Serbia, as a EU candidate, has to adjust its standards to EU norms in the area of environmental protection too.

He said that the German delegation voiced propositions for intensification of cooperation with Serbia and announced that the next meeting between the two countries’ representatives would be held in Stuttgart on September 9.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to improve institutional cooperation in the reconstruction in areas hit by natural disasters.
