Industrial production in the Republic of Serbia in October 2023

Industrial output increased by 3.0% compared to October 2022, and it is 8.0% higher compared to the average of 2022. Industrial production for the period of January to October 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, has increased by 2.4%.

When observed by sectors, the following trends were recorded in October 2023 to the same month in 2022:

– Manufacturing sector: 3.3% growth
– Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sector: 1.8% growth
– Mining sector: 1.7% growth

Data on industrial production by purpose groups in October 2023, compared to the same month the previous year, indicate the following changes in production:

– Non-durable consumer goods: 8.8% growth
– Capital goods: 4.9% growth
– Intermediate goods, excluding energy: 2.7% growth

However, there was a decline in production in the following categories:

– Durable consumer goods: 0.2% decline
– Energy: 3.0% decline

In October 2023, compared to October 2022 the volume of industrial production shows the following trends:

– 17 sectors experienced growth, accounting for 60% of the industrial production structure.
– 12 sectors experienced a decline, accounting for 40% of the industrial production structure.

The sectors that had the greatest impact on the growth of industrial production in October 2023, compared to October 2022, were the production of basic metals, the production of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, the production of food products, the production of computers, electronic, and optical products, and the extraction of metal ores.

The seasonally adjusted index of industrial production for October 2023, compared to September 2023, indicates a 0.3% growth in total industry production and a 0.1% growth in the manufacturing sector.

The seasonally adjusted index of industrial production for October 2023, compared to the average of 2022, shows a growth of 2.6% for the total industry and a growth of 1.8% for the manufacturing sector.

The production of small enterprises (employing fewer than 50 people) that are not covered by regular statistical surveys is monitored through a sample of selected units in the manufacturing sector. When the estimated industrial production of small enterprises from the sample is included, industrial production in October 2023, compared to the average of 2022, is higher by 7.9% for total industrial production and by 8.2% for the manufacturing sector.
