Meggle Srbija’s reconstructed dairy plant, in which a total of EUR 4 million have been invested, was opened today in Kragujevac in the presence of Minister of Agriculture and Trade Dusan Petrovic.

Chairman of the Managing Board of Meggle Srbija Goran Tadic stressed that, thanks to that investment, the dairy’s daily milk processing capacity has been increased from 60 to 170 tonnes.

He said that the company had launched 25 new articles under the brand Meggle since September, all of which were produced in Serbia.

Goran Tadic also announced new investments in the enhancement of quality in 2012.

Minister Petrovic pointed to the importance of the presence of good and quality companies like Meggle in Serbia and their investments in the dairy and all other industries.

Petrovic said that the arrival of Germany’s Meggle had made a significant change to the competition in the Serbian dairy industry, which was important not only for that industry, but also for consumers, farmers and the whole economy.

Toni Meggle, owner of the Meggle Group, stressed that that company was satisfied with its operations in Serbia, underlining that the Serbian government and the Ministry of Agriculture recognized the importance of milk production and “companies wishing and being able to grow.”

Meggle officially became the owner of Mladost dairy in Kragujevac in March 2011, after acquiring it in December 2010 from Belgrade-based Silbo.

Meggle Srbija today has about 110 employees. The new investment plan for 2012 envisages a EUR 2 million investment in another expansion of production capacities and the enhancement of the quality of products.

The Meggle Group has been producing milk for more than 120 years. It is now a company with over 40 affiliates worldwide and 2,500 employees, reporting over EUR 700 million worth of annual turnover.
