March price trends: Consumer goods dip, agriculture faces 18% producer price drop

The Republic Statistical Office (RSO) reported today that prices of consumer goods and services in March dipped from February’s 5.6% to 5.0% compared to the same month last year.

In March this year, prices rose by an average of 0.3% compared to February. Looking at main product and service groups classified by consumption purpose, statistical data shows that in March, compared to the previous month, price increases were recorded in communication by 2.9%, restaurants and hotels by 0.6%, and health by 0.5%.

RSO data shows that prices of products in the alcohol and tobacco group, as well as household equipment and maintenance, were higher by 0.3% in March 2024 compared to February. Transport increased by 0.2%, while in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and education groups, prices rose by 0.1% each.

Statistical data shows a decline in prices in the recreation and culture group by -0.7%, while prices of other products and services remained largely unchanged. Producer prices of agriculture and fishing products dropped by 18%.

According to RSO, in February 2024, producer prices of agriculture and fishing products decreased by 18% compared to the same month last year.

The largest impact on the price decline in February 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 was observed in the groups of cereals by -37.1% and industrial crops by -22.4%.

Statistical data also shows that in February compared to January 2024, producer prices of agriculture and fishing products decreased on average by 1.9%.

Looking at the main product groups, the biggest impact on price declines in February 2024 compared to January was also observed in the cereals group by -3.5%, as well as in the livestock and poultry group by -3.2%.

During the period of January-February 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, producer prices of agriculture and fishing products decreased on average by 17.5%.

Analyzing the main product groups, RSO data shows that the biggest impact on price declines during the period of January-February this year compared to the same period in 2023 was observed in the cereals group by -37.9% and livestock products by -14%.
