In 2022, revenues from environmental fees in Serbia totaled 241.63 billion dinars, representing a slight decrease of 1.0 percent compared to the previous year, as reported by the Republic Statistical Office (RZS).
Energy fees accounted for the largest portion of this revenue structure, comprising 87.2 percent, followed by traffic-related fees at 7.2 percent. Pollution fees and fees for resource use contributed 3.8 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. Producers paid the majority of these fees, accounting for 61.1 percent of total revenue, while households, as consumers, contributed 38.8 percent.
In terms of its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP), environmental fees amounted to 3.4 percent in 2022.
These fees serve as economic instruments for managing pollution and natural resources, aiming to influence the behavior of both producers and consumers. The fees monitored include energy fees, transportation fees (excluding fuel), pollution fees, and resource use fees.
