Serbia considering law to allow majority foreign defence company ownership

Serbia published a new draft law on defence industry and trade of military equipment on 6 March, which includes changes that could allow foreign companies to hold majority stakes in local defence groups.

The law stipulates that if a company is privately held by a foreign group the Serbian government will have the right to a controlling stake if a sale of the company could endanger “strategic interest of the national security” of the country. The draft law was presented for public debate at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. Public hearings on the law will be held on 23 March 2015.
