Small and medium enterprises in Serbia had the highest growth during the pandemic crisis

During the last year, the growth of the total profitability of the economy was mostly contributed by medium and small companies, which increased their profits by a third compared to the previous year, while small companies recorded the most pronounced growth of profitability, at a rate of 34.2 percent.
The growth of profitability in medium-sized companies was accompanied by an increase in the number of employees by 19,239 workers, while small companies achieved a better result with a decrease in the number of employees by 5,144 workers, APR reported.
The largest positive net result was generated by large systems, whose total profit increased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous year, and these companies also recorded the largest increase in the number of employees – by 29,101 workers.
The consequences of the crisis have mostly affected the business of micro-enterprises. They remained in the sphere of negative results, with their loss reduced by 16.4 percent on an annual level, while the number of employees increased by 396 workers compared to the previous year.

According to the data for 2020 from the report for statistical and other needs, published in the publication “Annual Bulletin of Financial Statements 2020”, which was received and processed this year by the Business Registers Agency for 106,111 companies, 87% of micro enterprises operate in Serbia, 10.9 percent of small, 1.7 percent of medium and 0.4 percent of large companies, Nova reports.
