Representatives of the management of Serbia Zijin Copper (SZC) and the leaders of Bor planted the first conifer seedlings in the Bor mine “Novo Cerovo” in the action of greening the slope of the landfill of this mine, which continues the activities and investments of this company in environmental management and renewal.
So far, SZC has invested 650 thousand euros for these purposes, and part of these investments have been invested in the reclamation of degraded mining areas and the rehabilitation of historical heritage, and according to SZC Deputy General Director for Safe Production Qiu Weijun, for a little less than two and a half years, more than 61,300 seedlings were planted, 349,000 square meters were greened and 21,024 tons of ordinary and 678.3 tons of hazardous waste were properly disposed. According to him, the overall environmental situation is much better today.
– Dams on the flotation tailings of all mines have been strengthened and repaired, and extraordinary results have been achieved when taking numerous measures to solve the problems with dust, solid waste, flue gases, noise, etc. The strengthening of the old drainage line in the “Veliki Krivelj” mine is in progress, and the construction of a new drainage system is being prepared, said Qiu Weijun.
Serbia’s Zijin Copper will continue to invest in the field of environmental protection, said, among other things, the general director of SZC, Jian Ximing.
– This action is the first of many steps that we will take in the direction of the first green mine in Serbia, and “Novo Cerovo” will become that in the near future. We will invest even more in the field of environmental protection and make a medium-term and long-term plan for production and construction in the next 2 + 3 + 5 years. Although according to the Strategic Partnership Agreement with the Government of Serbia, the company has no responsibility for managing the problems it inherited from RTB Bor, Serbia Zijin Copper will invest more effort and investment in their rehabilitation for a better life in Bor and Majdanpek – said Jian Ximing, emphasizing that the new investment plan will be made according to EU standards.
According to the General Director of SZC, the document on the ten-year development plan will contain the area of environmental protection, and the largest investment will be realized in the smelter, where the construction of environmental units for collecting and purifying flue gases, desulphurization systems, new converters and new anode furnaces is announced, in order for the air quality in Bor to be completely improved.
– You have shown great social responsibility towards all of us and I am glad that the environment is one of the important stages in your development. I am sure that everyone in Bor, on the example of your activities, will learn that mining can be green and respect all European and world standards. Serious progress in the development of Zijin can be seen at every step and we all know that in the previous two and a half years you have invested more than 700 million dollars in the development of mining and hired more than 1,200 new workers. Zijin’s contribution to the growth of the GDP of the Republic of Serbia is obvious, as is the higher standard of employees – said the mayor of Bor, Aleksandar Milikic, Danas reports.
