– Winemaking is the fastest growing sector of the entire Serbian economy and, along with the domestic IT sector, has the greatest potential for development – said Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic at the awards ceremony for the best domestic winemakers, organized by the Association of Winemakers and Winegrowers of Serbia.
Prime Minister Brnabic expressed satisfaction with the fact that domestic winemaking is visibly progressing and has ambitions to become recognizable on the world market as well.
– On May 1, I was with President Vucic at the opening of works on the Fruska Gora corridor. After that, we toured Fruska gora, walking along the Atar roads, through the vineyards, to see new plantations. He told me what we should do from Fruska gora and other wine-growing regions of our country and how much we should do for them, and how much additional value it is for our agriculture and economy, and how important it is for the promotion of Serbia – Prime Minister Brnabic explained.
She reminded that the Government of Serbia, with the help of the Minister of Agriculture Branimir Nedimiovic and the Association of Winemakers and Viticulture, adopted the Development Strategy of this sector with the goal of increasing the area under vines by 400 to 600 hectares every year.
– We are preparing the Law on Wine and I ask you to get involved in order to fulfill all our potentials in winemaking, and I expect that we will adopt it by the end of this year. I am proud of our winemaking, every part and congratulations from the bottom of my heart, and I really believe that we can be one of the best in the world in that as well – the Prime Minister pointed out.
The director of the Association of Winemakers and Winegrowers, Stevan Rajta, said that the “Great Evaluation of Serbian Wine” is a manifestation that has never been held in our country before.
– This is one of the largest projects of this kind in the Balkans. The Alliance of Winemakers and Winegrowers is a young organization that will grow and get better as time goes on and is very important for all of us – said Rajta, Srbija Danas reports.
