The domestic gaming industry is expected to experience growth in 2024

The annual revenue of the global video game industry is expected to increase by nearly $50 billion in 2024, and part of these funds will spill over to Serbia. Playstudios, a game development center in Belgrade, suggests that the domestic gaming scene will experience growth as a result.

Julijana Anđelić, the financial manager at Playstudios, points out that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly accelerated the development of video games, making them a dominant branch of the entertainment industry, especially in terms of mobile games.

“People spent a lot of time at home, and since the shooting of movies and series was often interrupted, video games were the only constant source of new entertainment. After that, the habit of playing somehow persisted until today,” she added.

She mentioned that this has reflected on the number of users, industry revenue, and the offerings of video game manufacturers. The company emphasizes that the gaming industry experienced disruptions globally in 2023, which also affected the domestic market.

According to the Serbian Gaming Association’s recent research, over 70% of respondents feel optimistic about the future of the industry.

“The significant interest in mobile games is not surprising, given that smartphones are the most widely used devices on a daily basis. However, regarding the domestic gaming scene, the growth projection for mobile games is very significant. Mobile games represent the main source of income for 45% of studios in Serbia,” highlighted AnÄ‘elić.
