The company Elixir Group announced today that it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the German group K + S, which includes the construction of a new, modern factory, the first in Serbia, for the production of crystalline water-soluble fertilizer mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP), with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons.

The factory will be built at a location in Prahovo within the Elixir Prahovo industrial complex, where the supply of phosphoric acid, which is the key raw material for this product, is already secured, and the investment is worth 35 million euros.

It was specified that the engineering works have started, while the construction works are expected to start in the spring of 2024. The start of production and availability of the first quantities of crystalline MAP from the new factory in Prahovo is expected at the beginning of 2026.

As stated, MAP is a highly concentrated water-soluble fertilizer that contains 12 percent nitrogen and 61 percent phosphorus, in the form of water-soluble crystals, and is used in modern fruit and vegetable production and applied through “drop by drop” fertigation systems.

In this way, the plants efficiently absorb nutrients, which results in higher yields and better quality of agricultural products at each stage of growth. Also, recently, crystalline MAP is increasingly used and sought after as a raw material in other industrial branches.

Elixir Group has undertaken the construction of a new factory with all warehousing and infrastructural capacities, while the company K + S will distribute the product through its global distribution network with a focus on markets in Europe, Eastern Europe and India.

It was pointed out that this product will put the company Elixir Prahovo on the map of European manufacturers of crystal fertilizers, as an extremely important product in modern agriculture. About 1.5 million tons of crystalline MAP are produced in the world annually, mostly in China.

It is recalled that the K + S group is the largest European potash producer and one of the most important in the world. The internationally oriented company from Germany, with production locations in Europe and North America, has more than 11,000 employees worldwide.

It was also indicated that this strategically important partnership, based on the goals of modern and sustainable agriculture, will enable the Elixir Group and the “K + S” Group, as leaders in the production of potassium and phosphorus, to expand their operations in this segment of agribusiness as well.
