According to preliminary data, the gross foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Serbia amounted to 13.5 billion euros at the end of December, the central bank announced today, stating that in 2020, in order to maintain relative stability in the foreign exchange market, it sold 1.45 billion euros net.
At the end of December, net foreign exchange reserves on the basis of required reserves and other bases, amounted to 11.1 billion euros.
The increase in gross foreign exchange reserves in December was realized in an environment in which the state further reduced its foreign currency liabilities on the basis of foreign currency loans and foreign currency securities, which contributed to the reduction of Serbia’s public debt, the statement said.
The increase in foreign exchange reserves in December was mainly due to inflows from the privatization of Komercijalna Banka of 395 million euros and the activities of the NBS through the net purchase of foreign exchange on the domestic foreign exchange market.
In December, as in 2020, the value of the dinar against the euro is almost unchanged, it is stated and added that the NBS bought 170 million euros net on the interbank foreign exchange market in December.
In 2020, in order to maintain relative stability in the foreign exchange market, and in the conditions of significantly increased global uncertainty due to the crisis caused by the pandemic, the NBS sold 1.45 billion euros net, Danas reports.
