This year, Serbia will be able to import 2.5 million liters of wine from the EU without customs duties, as announced by the Customs Administration.

This pertains to the quota for importing wines with preferential origin from the EU, published in the Official Gazette No. 141.

The wines fall into two categories, standard and slightly more expensive and higher quality, including sparkling wines.

Applications for the quota allocation are submitted through a declaration for placing goods in free circulation, which must be completed in accordance with the Regulation on the form, content, manner of submission, and completion of declarations and other forms in customs procedures.

Some experts believe that the elimination of customs duties on imported goods, including this, harms domestic producers. However, specialists point out that Serbian winemakers do not supply sufficient quantities of wine for our market, and cheaper foreign wines will not capture a significant portion of the market. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the largest quantity of imported wine to our country comes from North Macedonia, which has quite affordable prices, so competition in our market will remain strong.
