Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Prof. Dr. Zorana Mihajlovic said that “Air Serbia” and “Nikola Tesla” Airport are ready to start flights, but that it will depend on the agreement with European countries and their aviation authorities.
“It is important to know that during the coronavirus epidemic, our airport was not closed at any time – we brought medical equipment and humanitarian flights, which returned more than 15,000 of our citizens to the country, and about 13,000 foreigners flew to their countries.
“At the moment, there are no regular lines or clearly defined procedures anywhere in Europe,” she said.
Mihajlovic added that air traffic is something completely different in relation to road traffic, and that she expects doctors to give recommendations, in order to primarily respect the issue of passenger safety on the plane.
“Europe still does not have all the procedures – whether a PCR test or self-isolation will be needed is still not precisely defined when it comes to scheduled air traffic. We will start flights from four cities on May 18 – London, Vienna, Frankfurt and Zurich, because there are still our citizens who want to return to Serbia. Certainly, we should be proud of “Air Serbia”, without which we would not be able to realize anything during the state of emergency. The state is now on the move to help important companies, such as our national airline,” Zorana said, RTV reports.
